ALPACA PRODUCTS
Alpaca fleece is very soft and silky. It is lighter in weight and up to seven times warmer than sheep’s wool, but very breathable. Alpaca wool does not have the backward facing barbs that give sheep’s wool that scratchy feeling. Alpaca has no lanolin; it is hypoallergenic, naturally water repellent, doesn’t pill and is flame-resistant. Alpaca is extremely durable; a well-made blanket can easily last for years.
Alpaca are also known to have a low environmental impact compared to some other animals because they have split-toes, not hooves. The neutral colors, greys and browns, are sorted after sheering and are not dyed. For other colors, fibers are dyed and then mixed together. The fabric is then woven.
